The light of yoga is revealed in meditation, also known as dhyana in the eight limbs of yoga described by Patanjali. To access the state of dhyana, we begin with living well and being kind to ourselves and others. Then, we practice asana (yoga postures), pranayama (conscious control of the breath), pratyahara (sense withdrawal/savasana), dharana (concentration), and dhyana (unbroken concentration/meditation. This leads us to the ultimate state of freedom, samadhi.
In this two hour Master Class, you will experience a complete yoga practice that creates the conditions to achieve the beautiful gifts of all eight limbs of yoga. Expect about 45 minutes of asana and the remaining 75 minutes a blend of savasana, pranayama, and meditation. You do not need to know how to stand on your head or even touch your toes in this class. It is not a body-focused class, it is mind-focused. Expect at least 15 minutes of meditation. It is recommended that participants have some experience practicing yoga and meditation. Chairs and props are available to support your practice.
This is a donation-based class led by Elizabeth Malaugh.
